Fury.
Noise.
My highly religious Father's disapproving look.
The Virginmary's, along with being the latest in a long line of rock bands to insult the man upstairs, have some absolutely ferocious tunes.
Their new single "You're A Killer" combines QOTSA & The White Stripes with all the noise prevalent in rock bands this past decade.
A wall of fuzzed up guitars and pounding drum beats form the basis of the track, with the political lyrical themes all shouted from a charismatic vocalist. All in all it's your standard rock act.
But while for most bands these building blocks would seem generic, I feel that The Virginmary's have got what other, similar bands don't. Good bloody songs!
While its true that The Virginmary's aren't reinventing the wheel here, "You're A Killer" is loud, rebellious and fun to dance to. And those are the core ingredients of a kick ass rock song. There are small touches in the arrangement and dynamics that show the skill and restraint of the band. It's not full blast all the time; there is space and the important ebb and flow between sections, while still remaining continuously furious.
I can also appreciate, as a man with a similar message, the bands slogan of "Peace Love Truth Music". Clearly we are of the same ilk and I'd love a chance to see the band live. Apparently they are based in Macclesfield. I'm only in Derby. Ally, Dan, fancy an interview?
I highly recommend taking the time to check out The Virginmary's and their new single "You're A Killer" out now. I'll see you all again very soon.
Peace, Love, & Cowbells,
Oscar
